On Sunday, the MR. and I got up super early and took a mini drive with our dogs out to the Carrizo Plains to watch the sunrise. I know, that sounds nuts but we are early birds. We are really fortunate that we only live about twenty five minutes from this National Monument that is just about 100 miles north of Los Angeles and features the San Andreas fault. We frequent the plains often with our dogs Hershel (pomeranian) and Beatrix (pitbull) to take in the native California wildlife and just to get away, but this was our first time all the way out to Soda Lake. Soda Lake, a bed of white salt surrounded by grassland, is the centerpiece of the Carrizo.
I had never seen anything like it before, it felt like we were on another planet!
